For my wedding last June I incorporated some of the new Polaroid cameras with the guestbook. My cute cousins, Natalie and Madeline, took pictures of guests and sent them towards the guestbook where they put their photo in and wrote a note. It was a fun way to remember the evening and I’m so happy we have it as a keepsake to look back from the evening.
While out in Hawaii over Christmas we pulled out the cameras and leftover film and brought it along to Hokulia (actually our wedding venue) for a New Year’s party. It provided for cute, fun keepsakes of the evening (not to mention entertainment and a reason to wear New Year’s crowns). We even took some party pics of other guests and gave it to them as a keepsake.
(Why yes, that is a big sweaty sumo man posing as a big sweaty New Year’s baby.)
And an Instagram photo, because there’s no better way to end/start a year.
Anyone else have a new or old polaroid laying around they like to bust out for special occasions?

We included new Polaroid cameras for guests to have their picture taken to put next to their message to us. I customized the guestbook with a personalized first page and an engagement picture in the front window.
My mom visited Asia several months before the wedding and surprised us with an entire suitcase full of these AMAZING parasols! They provided shade while waiting for the ceremony to begin and were a fun keepsake for guests!
2 DELICIOUS signature drinks. Rodney’s (Rodney works at Hokulia, our venue) Mai Tai’s really are the best in the world.
Note the cocktail napkins have changed from “Are Tying the Knot” to “Tied the Knot”. We also ordered customized stirrers with our married initials (which happen to be my personal married initials as well!) from Horchow.
I made the flag garland around the cake. I may do a whole post on this. I’m debating because honestly it didn’t turn out exactly as I planned as the humidity pulled apart a lot of the glue in an awkward way. I think overall it turned out nice, just not exactly what I was thinking.
The tables were more than I imagined they would be. My mom worked with a wedding planner in Tulsa to make the runners. We chose a fabric that was similar to burlap, but a bit higher quality. We had two different colors and my mom figured out a way to knot smaller pieces on top which gave it a more complex look and perfectly accented the gorgeous wood furniture (not only did we save money on rentals by using Hokulia’s furniture, we had a better quality than we could have rented). It couldn’t have been more perfect!
Had to make sure the name cards wouldn’t blow away, so I re-utilized the hemp string from the invitations to tie them around the menus.
LOVE this shot. That is how the sky photographed right after sunset. This table had our favors (small woven boxes with chocolate turtles inside) that doubled as escort cards.

I’m off to Tulsa tomorrow for a few days. The “lowest high” for the time I’m there is 103… Wish me luck!
Welcome to the first “Aloha Friday”. The newscasters in Hawaii refer to Friday (ahh beginning of the weekend) as Aloha Friday. It really doesn’t change anything about the day, as it’s not a holiday. It’s every Friday. But it’s essentially a vacation mentality I wish us “mainlanders” had. Though not all of us are lucky enough to reside in a tropical paradise, we too can have a bit of “aloha” in our lives. So I plan on using my Friday posts, Aloha Fridays, as a more open, free forum (not so strictly design oriented). Just things that interest and excite me.
So right after I’ve told you that Aloha Friday doesn’t always mean design, I’m going to really confuse the matter and start things off on a design oriented post. Aloha Friday also does NOT mean it will always be island related (as I said, it’s more a state of mind, than literally mai tai’s and waves). However, today’s post is both design and island related.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m getting married in Hawaii in May. I’ve always been intrigued by the vintage Hawaiian look. There’s something so classic about it. So I knew right away (and by right away I mean after we deliberated where the wedding would actually take place) I wanted our save-the-date to resemble a vintage Hawaiian postcard. I decided to use an actual image on the front after searching through countless terrible stock illustration. The fonts are some of my favorites (I won’t bore the masses, but if you’re interested, message me and I’ll tell you the names) and I think overall the look is exactly what we wanted. I’m all about the details. Though no one could see the “place stamp here” message under the stamp, I knew I wanted it to aid in authenticity. I was also quite pleased with the fact that the image chosen on the front is our actual venue, Hokulia. Using an image of the actual venue was an excellent way to excite guests.
